Bottoming for jesus is a show about holes…

and the lengths we go to fill them.

Through storytelling, song, and spectacular failure, creator and performer Michael R. Speciàle traces his path from self-converting to Mormonism at age 15 through a kaleidoscope of purpose-seeking, spiritual absurdity, and radical vulnerability.

This fearless solo performance moves through costume changes, musical numbers, whiteboard illustrations, and unvarnished truths about belonging, sexuality, and the myths we build meaning from. Yes, there are cum dump jokes. Yes, there’s a Judy Garland tribute. But at its core, it’s a show about what happens when the imaginary circumstances we choose to believe in start to crack.

Directed by award-winning performer and choreographer Spenser Theberge, with original musical arrangements by Jeremiah Ginn (national tours of Anastasia, Murder For Two), Bottoming For Jesus transforms the theater into an intimate space where comedy meets confession and the sacred dances with the profane.

Following its Los Angeles premiere, the production is now touring to Portland, San Francisco, and New York City before making its international debut at the 2026 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

This performance contains explicit discussions of sexuality, religious themes, and adult language. Recommended for audiences 18+.

WHAT AUDIENCES ARE SAYING

“A one person play and musical…on desire and loneliness and filling our spiritual/literal holes and Judy Garland crying ‘Fuck ‘em all!’ before each performance…a stunning piece.”
